Can I Sit Here?” The Wounded Mafia Boss Asked a Waitress at 3 A.M.—Then Her Husband’s K9 Recognized Him and Exposed the Secret That Could Break Their Marriage

Part 2

The old diner suddenly felt too bright, too exposed, too fragile for the kind of secrets sitting in booth seven.

Nora wrapped Blake’s wound while Ray watched the windows. Sergeant lay across Blake’s feet, refusing to move, his amber eyes following every shadow beyond the glass.

“You knew where we were,” Nora said to Blake. “You came here on purpose.”

Blake looked at her for a long moment.

“I knew the address,” he admitted. “I never intended to use it.”

Ray leaned forward. “Then why tonight?”

“Because someone decided an old secret was worth killing for.”

Nora felt the room tilt.

Ray’s jaw tightened, and for the first time in years, she saw fear in her husband’s eyes—not fear for himself, but for her.

“There’s a file,” Ray said quietly. “Someone inside the department has been digging into the warehouse shooting. The missing witness. The missing statement. The man who saved me and disappeared.”

“Blake,” Nora whispered.

Blake’s expression remained controlled, but his silence was answer enough.

Ray dragged a hand over his face. “My old partner left me a message three weeks ago. She said they knew about the warehouse.”

“And you didn’t tell me?” Nora asked.

“Nora—”

“No. Don’t say my name like that. Not when I’m standing here finding out my marriage has been sharing space with ghosts.”

The words hurt him. She saw it. But she was too shaken to take them back.

Blake looked toward the door. “The man behind this is Garrett Voss. He wants leverage. On me. On Ray. On anyone he can use.”

“And now he knows where to find us?” Nora asked.

Ray stood immediately. “You’re leaving with me.”

“I am not being ordered around in my own diner.”
