The Mafia Boss Ran Into the ICU for His Maid and Discovered She Had Been Saving Him for Years

Part 2: “Yes.”

“You understand what happens if you’re lying.”

“I’m not lying.”

For three seconds, Victor studied her face.

Then he turned to the guard beside him. “Get the dogs on the SUV. Now. Find Marcus.”

The bomb was found eleven minutes later.

Marcus was already gone.

By noon, Emily was moved to a safe house in Logan Square with guards at the door and a clean phone she was not allowed to use. She sat on the edge of a bed that did not feel like hers and thought about her mother waiting for a call that would not come.

At three, because fear made her hands restless, she reorganized the kitchen.

At six, she made dinner for Carmen, the female guard assigned to stay inside the apartment.

At 6:42, Emily heard something heavy hit the hallway wall.

Not a knock.

A body.

Carmen looked up from the table.

Emily already knew.

The safe house had been found.

Carmen drew her weapon and moved toward the door. She did not make it three steps before the door burst inward and a man in a dark coat came through with terrifying quiet. He moved like someone who had been paid very well to end problems.

Carmen fired once.

The shot went wide.

The man struck her hard enough to drop her against the wall.

Emily ran.

She did not think. She did not scream. She grabbed the clean phone from the counter and bolted through the rear service exit, down a narrow stairwell, through a side door, and into the rain.
