A harmless text sent to the wrong person shattered the ordinary life I thought I had.

PART 2.

I stood frozen while Alex Mancini removed his coat and draped it over the chair as though he belonged in my apartment.

His gaze moved from my wine-colored pajamas to the phone still clenched in my hand.

“It was an accident,” I blurted.

“I meant to send that picture to Sarah.”

Alex’s expression barely changed.

“Then Sarah is a fortunate woman.”

Heat rushed into my face as I explained the joke, the wrong conversation, and my desperate attempt to delete everything.

He listened without interrupting, which somehow felt more dangerous than anger.

When I finished, he stepped closer and asked why his number was near the top of my messages.

I reminded him that he had texted me about financial reports that afternoon.

His eyes narrowed.

“I never sent you anything today.”

The room suddenly felt colder.

I opened our conversation and showed him the message requesting confidential account summaries.

Alex took my phone, read it twice, and called someone immediately.

Within minutes, his playful calm disappeared.

The number saved under his name had been copied, and whoever contacted me had been trying to access files connected to his family’s private companies.

My embarrassing photograph had exposed the trap.

Alex turned toward the window and ordered guards to search the building.

I asked whether I was in danger.

“You were the moment they chose you,” he said.

A crash sounded from the hallway before he finished.

Alex pulled me behind him as the apartment lights went dark.

Someone tried the door handle, then whispered my name from the other side.
