A Rich Heiress Tripped the Curvy Event Planner — Then the Mafia Boss Pulled Her Into His Arms and Made the Whole Room Remember Her Name

A Rich Heiress Tripped the Curvy Event Planner — Then the Mafia Boss Pulled Her Into His Arms and Made the Whole Room Remember Her Name

The champagne tower had not even finished collapsing when the entire ballroom went silent.

Ava Marlow stood frozen beside the private lounge, champagne soaking through her black event blazer, broken crystal glittering around her shoes, every rich guest in the room staring at her like she had been invited there just to be humiliated.

Then the laughter started.

Soft at first.

Cruel.

A whisper slipped through the crowd. “Oh my God, of course it was her.”

Ava bent down, cheeks burning, trying to gather the broken glass before anyone noticed her shaking hands. Her ankle throbbed. Her curls had fallen loose. Her sensible shoes slid against the wet marble.

And just a few feet away, Celeste Waverly smiled.

Celeste, in a silver dress worth more than Ava’s rent.

Celeste, whose heel had been exactly where Ava’s foot should have landed.

“Careful,” Celeste said loudly. “These rooms weren’t built for everyone.”

The words hit harder than the fall.

Ava swallowed the tears and reached for the glass.

That was when a hand closed around her wrist.

Not rough.

Not gentle.

Commanding.

Ava looked up and found Dante Russo staring down at her.

Every person in Manhattan knew that name. Billionaire in public. Something darker in whispers. A man no one crossed unless they wanted their life rearranged by morning.

His eyes dropped to the broken glass.

Then to Celeste’s silver heel.

Then back to Ava.

“Don’t touch the glass,” he said.

Ava’s breath caught. “Mr. Russo, I’m so sorry. I’ll clean this immediately.”

His voice lowered.

“No. You won’t.”

Behind him, two of his men shifted, and the entire ballroom seemed to forget how to breathe.

Ava tried to pull her hand back, but Dante didn’t let go.

Then he said the one thing no client had ever said to her before.

Celeste’s smile faltered. Ava’s manager rushed forward, already blaming her before anyone asked a question. But Dante Russo kept his hand around Ava’s wrist, his gaze locked on the woman in silver, and the silence in that ballroom turned dangerous.

“Did you see what happened?” Dante asked.
