He Asked His Pregnant Wife for a Divorce During the Ultrasound, but the Baby’s Test Made His Entire Family Go Silent

Part 2: Vivian did not blink. “Your attorney told me. Someone had to make sure you weren’t manipulated again.”

Again.

That word landed hard.

Ethan’s father had betrayed Vivian years before. The whole family knew it. Vivian had spent decades teaching her sons that trust was a softer word for stupidity. Claire understood then that she was not only fighting a mother-in-law. She was fighting a woman who had built an empire out of suspicion.

“Sign,” Vivian said, placing another pen on the folder. “The board meets tomorrow. Any scandal could destabilize the group.”

Claire gave a sad smile.

“So that’s it. It’s not about honor. It’s about the board meeting.”

“It is about preventing a lie from destroying everything we built.”

Claire placed a hand on her belly.

“Maybe the lie is inside your lab.”

Dr. Avery went pale.

Ethan saw it.

“Malcolm,” he said slowly, “is there any possibility of an error?”

“No,” Avery answered.

Claire looked at Ethan. “Ask for the original file. The collection record. The access history.”

Vivian touched Ethan’s arm. He did not move away.

That small choice broke something in Claire.

Not loudly. Not dramatically. It broke like a rope stretched for years finally giving out.
