He Divorced His Quiet Wife, Then a Mafia Boss’s Jet Landed to Take Her Home

Part 2: She said nothing.

The rear door of the second SUV opened.

Gabriel Bennett stepped out.

At fifty-two, Gabriel was tall, broad-shouldered, and silver at the temples. A pale scar crossed the left side of his jaw. His charcoal overcoat moved in the cold wind as he climbed the courthouse steps.

Conversation died around him.

Even the reporters lowered their cameras for a moment.

Gabriel Bennett rarely appeared in public. He was associated with shipping terminals, private-security firms, hotels, and enough whispered violence to make ambitious prosecutors build entire careers around proving what no witness would say in court.

To Claire, he was also the boy who had carried her home when she fell from a tree at nine years old.

He stopped one step below her.

For several seconds, neither of them spoke.

They had not seen each other in four years.

Gabriel’s gaze moved over her face, checking for damage she could no longer hide.
