Her Ex Drugged Her Cocktail - Then The Mafia Boss Made Him Drink It In Front Of The Whole Bar

Her Ex Drugged Her Cocktail - Then The Mafia Boss Made Him Drink It In Front Of The Whole Bar

Megan thought one quiet drink would prove she was finally free.

Ryan thought it would make her helpless.

The Sapphire Lounge glowed warm against the rain outside, all dark wood, amber light, and polished bottles stacked behind the bar like stained glass.

Megan Turner sat near the window with a vodka martini in front of her and her phone in her hand.

Two weeks.

That was how long it had been since she walked out of Ryan’s apartment for the last time.

Two weeks since she blocked his number.

Two weeks since she stopped apologizing for clothes he disliked, friends he distrusted, and dreams he called unrealistic.

Monday morning, she had an interview with Crawford Design Agency.

Real work.

A real chance.

A life that belonged to her again.

She lifted the martini in a silent toast.

Then Ryan walked in.

The bar was miles from his apartment.

Miles from his office.

Nowhere near any place he should have been.

But there he was, rain dripping from his coat, scanning the room until his eyes found hers.

His face changed instantly.

Not surprise.

Not guilt.

That practiced wounded look he used whenever he wanted her to feel cruel for protecting herself.

He crossed the room and sat across from her without asking.

“Megan.”

“I blocked your number, Ryan. That should have been clear.”

“We need to talk.”

“No. We don’t.”

“You can’t throw away two years without hearing me out.”

Every instinct told her to run.

But running meant stepping back into the rain alone.

It meant the subway.

It meant him following.

At least here, people could see.

“One drink,” she said. “You say what you came to say, then you leave me alone. Permanently.”

Ryan ordered bourbon.

Then he started talking.

Apologies.

Excuses.

Old memories polished until they no longer looked like control.

Megan barely heard him.

Because someone else was watching.

A man in a corner booth.

Dark hair.

Charcoal suit.

Amber eyes.

Four men sat with him around a table covered in papers, clearly in the middle of business, but his attention was fixed on Megan.

Not casually.

Carefully.

Like he had noticed something no one else in the bar had bothered to see.

Megan looked away, embarrassed and unsettled.

“I’m going to the restroom,” she said, cutting Ryan off mid-sentence.

In the bathroom, she gripped the marble sink and stared at herself.

Mascara smudged.

Hands shaking.

Heart too loud.

She should have left the second Ryan walked in.

When she returned, the bar had changed.

The room was quieter.

Conversations had thinned.

Ryan sat alone at the table, suddenly pale.

And standing beside her chair, holding her martini glass, was the man with amber eyes.

Up close, he was taller than she expected.

Controlled.

Dangerous.

The kind of man who did not need to raise his voice because people already knew to listen.

Two of his men had moved too.

One near the bar.

One near the exit.

The amber-eyed man turned to Megan.

“You should not drink this.”

Megan stopped.

“What?”

His eyes shifted to Ryan.

“Your companion added something to it while you were gone.”

Ryan shot up.

“He’s lying. Megan, let’s just go.”

“Sit down,” the stranger said.

Ryan sat.

The whole bar went silent.

“I watched you,” the man said. “You pulled a small bottle from your pocket, poured it into her drink, and stirred it with her cocktail spoon.”

Megan’s hands started shaking.

“Ryan. What did you do?”

“Nothing. He’s crazy. You know me.”

The stranger set the martini on the table.

“If it is nothing, drink it.”

Ryan went white.

“I’m not drinking her martini.”

“Then I call the police.”

The stranger pulled out his phone.

“Explain to them why you drugged a woman’s drink in a crowded bar with witnesses.”

Ryan looked around.

For once, there was no private room.

No closed door.

No way to twist the story before anyone else heard it.

Only the glass.

Only the silence.

Only the man who had noticed.

What did Ryan put in Megan’s drink, and why did the mafia boss already know exactly what Ryan planned to do?
