I SAVED A STRANGER FROM A SINKING LUXURY CAR — THREE DAYS LATER THE MOST FEARED MAN IN NEW YORK WAS STANDING OVER MY BED

PART 2

When Vincent Castellano finally stepped closer to my bed, he did not thank me first.

He looked at the silver ring hanging at my throat as if that tiny piece of metal had just opened a door he never expected to see again.

Then he asked me a question that made the whole room feel smaller.

“Where did you get that?”

I told him it belonged to my mother.

That should have ended the moment.

It did the opposite.

The color in his face changed so fast I thought the fever had come back and I was imagining things.

He sat down beside the bed and said my mother’s name before I ever spoke it.

Not a guess.

Not a test.

He knew it.

That was the first twist.

The second came seconds later, when the doctor walked in, checked my pulse, and then glanced at Vincent like there was something much worse than pneumonia in that room.

Something old.

Something buried.

Something powerful men had been trying to keep buried for years.

Vincent asked everyone to leave.

Even his most trusted men.

The door shut.
