I thought waking up in a mafia boss’s bed after my birthday

Part 2

I thought the nightclub was the trap.

I was wrong.

The real trap had been waiting for me at home the whole time.

After Dante dragged me out of that apartment with bullets tearing through the dark, I still thought I understood the shape of my nightmare.

A dead father.

A poisoned warning.

A mafia war I never asked to enter.

But the next morning proved I had only seen the outer layer.

Inside the bank box was not just evidence.

It was a photograph that should not have existed, an old letter with my name on it, and one image that made my blood run cold the second I turned it over.

Because the woman Dante trusted most had been standing beside his enemy years before she ever smiled at me across his breakfast table.

That was the moment I stopped asking who wanted me.

The real question became who had been lying to all of us from the beginning.

And Dante still had one truth he had not said out loud.

He knew my name before that birthday night.
