I WAS FORCED TO MARRY MY SISTER’S BLIND MAFIA FIANCÉ IN HER DRESS

PART 2

He did not kiss me first.

He lifted my veil with two fingers, slowly, like he wanted to see what kind of girl my family had decided was easy to throw away.

Then he leaned close enough for me to feel his breath near my cheek and whispered, “They really thought I was blind.”

My heart stopped for a second.

Not because of the words.

Because of the way he said them.

Calm.

Amused.

Like he had been waiting for this exact moment longer than I had been dreading it.

I looked up at him, and that was when the second twist hit me.

He was not just seeing me.

He was studying the front row.

My mother.

My father.

The empty chair my sister should have been sitting in.

And then he smiled without moving his eyes from them.

It was the kind of smile that made my stomach drop.

Not warm.

Not cruel.

Certain.

Like a man watching a trap close.

I thought the worst part of that day was being forced into my sister’s dress.

I was wrong.

The worst part was realizing I was the only person at that altar who still did not understand the real deal that had been made.

When the ceremony ended, he kept his hand around mine a second too long.

Just long enough to make it look affectionate.
