I WAS THE ONLY WITNESS A MAFIA BOSS LET WALK AWAY

PART 2

I wanted to believe Dominic’s ex was bitter, dramatic, maybe even obsessed.

But then she said Leo’s name.

Not casually.

Not by accident.

She said it like she had the right to touch a wound Dominic never let anyone near.

That was the first thing that made my stomach drop.

The second was the way she looked at me after she said it.

Not jealous.

Not angry.

Certain.

Like she already knew I would go home and replay every moment Dominic had ever gone quiet around me.

Every changed subject.

Every look over his shoulder.

Every time he touched me like I was something he wanted and something he feared losing.

Then she leaned in and told me Dominic had once destroyed a city block just to find the men responsible for his brother’s death.

But when I asked the question that mattered most, she smiled.

And that smile was wrong.

Too calm.

Too pleased.

That was when I realized she wasn’t warning me to save me.

She was warning me because she wanted me afraid.

I should have walked away right then.

Instead, I asked her the one thing she clearly did not expect.

If Dominic hated betrayal so much, why was she still alive?

For the first time, her expression cracked.

Only for a second.

But it was enough.

Enough to tell me she was hiding something far bigger than heartbreak.
