I WHISPERED TO THE MAFIA BOSS NOT TO GET IN THE CAR

PART 2

I should have walked away the moment Dante asked me to work for him.

Instead, I followed him deeper into a world I had only seen from hallways and half-open doors.

By nightfall, I understood something worse than the ambush.

The driver was not the real shock.

He was only the leak Dante was supposed to find.

The real problem was someone much closer.

That night, Dante took me to the docks and told me to watch everyone.

Not listen.

Not speak.

Watch.

So I did.

A man on Russo’s side kept glancing toward the water.

Another kept tapping his belt like he was waiting for permission.

Then I caught it.

A tiny hand signal in the dark.

Not random.

Not nerves.

A message.

I leaned toward Dante and told him men were hiding beyond the lights.

He trusted me instantly.

That should have comforted me.

It didn’t.

Because when the floodlights came on, Dante’s men were already there.

Waiting.

Armed.

Ready.

Which meant he had expected betrayal before I ever opened my mouth.
