She Vanished on Their Anniversary Before the Mafia Boss Found the Secret That Could Destroy Him

Part 2: Roman looked at the pregnancy test.

“She’s gone.”

By dawn, Roman’s empire was moving through fourteen states.

Rental agencies. Gas stations. Budget motels. Traffic cameras. Pharmacy footage. Every favor Roman had earned in twenty years was called in before sunrise.

But Evelyn had learned from the monster she was running from.

She had not taken the fastest route. She had not used her phone. She had paid cash. She had crossed county lines deliberately. She had built false names the way Roman built shell companies.

And that hurt him more than he wanted to admit.

“She planned this for months,” Marco said in Roman’s study as gray light spread across the lawn.

Roman stood by the window, untouched coffee cooling on his desk.

“Yes,” he said.

“She had eleven thousand in cash. Maybe more.”

“Yes.”

“She used a rental under Katherine Wells, paid prepaid, loaded the card slowly.”

Roman closed his eyes.

He had built his life on reading people. He knew when men lied by the direction of their eyes. He knew when loyalty was thin. He knew when a room changed temperature because betrayal had entered it.
