She Was Forced to Live With the Mafia King Until He Saw the Burn Marks She Had Hidden for Five Years

Part 2: “I’m observing them.”

“Do you observe everyone in your house?”

“Yes.”

“Then you must be exhausted.”

For the first time, Cassian almost smiled.

It vanished before it became human.

At half past midnight, Saraphina stood. She tucked the book under her arm and took three steps toward the door.

Then the sleeve of her night robe caught on the brass corner of the reading chair.

It happened fast.

A soft pull. A slip of fabric. Her left shoulder bared for less than a second under the lamplight.

But one second was enough.

She felt the air touch the old burn scar that curved from the back of her shoulder toward her spine. Felt the cold blade of exposure slice through her body.

She pulled the robe back into place.

She did not look at Cassian.

She walked out.

In her room, she locked the door, then the bathroom door, then checked the window. She sat on the bed until dawn with her back against the headboard and both arms wrapped around herself.
