The Curvy Secretary Tried to Quit the Mafia Boss, but at 3:17 A.M. He Bought Her Entire Apartment Building

Part 2: “The truth.”

“The truth is dangerous.”

“So is silence.”

He looked down at her letter.

“I could refuse to accept this.”

“You can refuse the paper. You cannot refuse my decision.”

“No,” he said. “I can’t.”

The quiet acceptance hurt more than she expected.

She picked up her purse.

Then Adrien said, “There is a man named Victor Hail.”

Clare stopped.

“He has spent two years buying influence around my organization,” Adrien continued. “Three weeks ago, one of my sources reported that Hail’s people were asking questions about someone.”

“You?”

“You.”

The room seemed to tilt.

“I’m a secretary.”

“To Hail, you are five years of information walking around in heels.”

“I don’t know anything useful.”

“You know where every dollar moves. Which companies are legitimate. Which exist only on paper. Which names appear in meetings and which names never appear anywhere.”

“I never asked to know those things.”

“That won’t matter to the person questioning you.”

Clare’s fingers tightened around her purse strap.

“You’re trying to scare me into staying.”
