The hotel maid they sent to shame the blind billionaire became the only woman he trusted when his empire tried to bury him

Part 2: “Treats me like I’m allowed to know what’s happening in my own room.”

Odessa paused with a folded towel in her hands. “You are allowed to know. It’s your room.”

He turned his head toward her then, and for the first time, his expression shifted.

“Where did you learn that?”

“My mother,” Odessa said before she could stop herself. “She lost her sight before she passed. People used to grab her arm without asking, talk over her, move things around like she was a child. She hated it. So I learned to just tell her the truth.”

Theo was quiet for so long she wondered if she had said too much.

Then he said, “I lost my sight in the accident that killed my father.”

Odessa set the towel down.

“I’m sorry.”

“Everyone says that.”

“I mean it.”

His jaw tightened, but his voice softened. “I know.”

When Odessa walked out twelve minutes later, Sarah was waiting near the ice machine with Lauren and Paige.

“What happened?” Sarah demanded. “Why aren’t you crying?”

Odessa met her eyes for the first time in four years without looking down.
