The Mafia Boss Came Home Early and His Maid Whispered Stay Quiet Before His Whole Life Burned Down

Part 2: Dante leaned close.

The living room below was lit only by firelight and a few battery lanterns placed on antique tables. Six armed men stood in the room, their rifles lowered but ready. Two wore night-vision goggles pushed up onto their helmets. Rain flashed beyond the dark windows.

On the white leather sofa sat Camila.

She looked breathtaking.

That was the cruelest part.

She wore an emerald silk dress Dante had bought for her in New York, the fabric shining like poison in the firelight. Her blonde hair fell in soft waves over one shoulder. She held a glass of Dante’s best bourbon like she owned the house already.

Leo Marino sat beside her, one arm stretched along the back of the sofa behind her shoulders.

Across from them, a thickset man with a shaved head and a silver cross on his chest studied a stack of papers spread across the coffee table.

Hector Valez.

Dante knew the name. Ambitious, brutal, and stupid enough to think Chicago could be bought if the right body fell.

“Once Dante lands tomorrow,” Leo said, “his convoy gets hit on the private road. Fast. Clean. We blame an outside crew. I step in before the family has time to panic.”

Camila smiled into her glass. “They will accept you.”

Hector leaned back. “You sound sure.”

“Dante rules through fear,” Camila said. “Leo gives people what they want. Money, favors, attention. Dante thinks loyalty is built by respect. He never understood that most people just want to be paid.”

Leo laughed softly.

Dante did not blink.

Beside him, Beatrice pressed a hand over her mouth, as if hearing those words wounded her physically.

“After the funeral,” Leo continued, tapping the papers, “we move the port interests into the new holding companies. Hector’s people get their route access. I keep the city stable. Camila becomes the grieving widow everyone feels sorry for.”

Hector looked at Camila. “Widow? You are not married yet.”

Camila’s smile sharpened. “We will fix that on paper before morning. Dante already signed enough documents giving me authority over the estate accounts after the wedding. His attorney prepared them. He trusted me.”
