The Mafia Boss Forgot His Phone on Thanksgiving, and by Sunrise His Pregnant Wife Had Sold the House and Vanished

Part 2: “No. Go home to your family.”

“I don’t like leaving you alone.”

“I’m not alone.”

Elena rested her hand over her son.

Nora smiled sadly, collected her coat, and left through the service entrance.

The townhouse became silent.

Elena cleared one plate, covered the turkey, and carried two glasses toward the kitchen.

That was when she saw Roman’s phone.

It rested on the marble island.

Roman never forgot his phone.

He had carried it into their wedding photographs. He kept it beside him during funerals. He once turned a car around halfway to the airport because he had left it charging in his office.

Elena stared at the device.

It vibrated.

A message appeared across the unlocked screen.

Celeste Ward.

I’m wearing the emerald bracelet. Don’t make me wait again.

Elena stopped breathing.

Celeste was Vescari Atlantic’s senior communications director. Thirty-two years old, elegant, ambitious, and always careful to compliment Elena’s dresses before asking Roman for more money.

Another message appeared.

You promised this would be our last Thanksgiving in hiding.

Elena did not cry.

Instead, she touched the screen.

The conversation opened.

There were photographs from hotel rooms in London and private villas in the Caribbean. Celeste wore Elena’s missing diamond necklace in one picture and Roman’s shirt in another.

There were dinner reservations, flight manifests, and messages sent during Elena’s prenatal appointments.

One photograph showed Roman’s hand resting on Celeste’s bare knee beneath a table.

It had been taken on Elena’s birthday.
