The Mafia Boss Mocked the Rookie Waitress Until She Dropped a Seven Foot Assassin Before His Wine Arrived

Part 2: A tray hitting the floor.

Footsteps.

Light, quick, steady footsteps running toward the danger instead of away from it.

And a woman’s voice, no longer trembling.

“No.”

Roman turned.

Sarah Miller stood in the center aisle.

Her tray lay on the marble behind her. The clean fork she had brought for Alex rolled near her shoe. Her face was calm now, so calm it looked carved.

“Get away from him,” she said.

Roman stared at her as if a napkin had insulted him.

“Little waitress,” he slurred. “Run.”

Sarah reached up and pulled the pins from her bun. Her hair fell around her shoulders. Not pretty. Not dramatic. Practical. Like she was removing one more thing that could be grabbed.

Alex stared.

The timid girl was gone.

Her shoulders dropped. Her knees bent slightly. Her hands opened. Her breathing changed.

The room saw it.

Roman saw it.

And something in Alex Calder’s chest went cold because he suddenly understood that the waitress had been pretending the entire time.
