Part 2: Her fingers tightened around the flash drive. “Don’t marry Celeste.”

Dominic went still.

“It’s a trap,” Mara breathed. “The wedding. The yacht. Victor.” Her voice broke. “Everything is on here.”

“Stop talking.”

“They came back last night.” She swallowed hard. “I locked the door. I didn’t know who to call.”

Dominic’s throat tightened in a way he didn’t recognize.

He slid one arm behind her shoulders. “I’m moving you.”

“The drive.”

“I have it.”

“Don’t let go.”

“I won’t.”

She was heavier than he expected, or maybe weaker than he could stand to admit. When he lifted her, she made one sharp sound and bit it back. Her body trembled against him, but she did not cry. Even half-dead, Mara Bennett seemed determined not to inconvenience anyone with her suffering.

He carried her down five flights of stairs.

Outside, dawn was beginning to pale over the rooftops.
