The Ruthless Mafia King Found a Broken Paralyzed Woman Hiding in His Warehouse

Part 2
The ride to Salvatore Rossi’s estate felt unreal.
Melanie drifted in and out of consciousness beneath soft blankets while Chicago lights blurred beyond the tinted windows. Every time pain dragged her awake, she found the same thing waiting for her.
Salvatore.
Silent.
Watching.
Protective.
The SUV finally passed through enormous iron gates and stopped in front of a sprawling mansion glowing warmly against the snowy night.
This wasn’t a criminal hideout.
It looked like something from another world.
Powerful. Elegant. Untouchable.
Inside, an entire medical suite had already been prepared.
Doctors moved quickly around her while expensive machines beeped softly in the background. Someone carefully cleaned dried blood from her skin. Another adjusted medication through an IV.
Through it all, Salvatore remained near the doorway like a dark shadow guarding the room.
Then the doctor spoke words that shattered the fragile calm.
“There’s severe spinal trauma.”
Melanie stopped breathing.
The doctor lowered his voice carefully.
“She may never walk again.”
The room fell silent.
Melanie stared at the ceiling while numb horror swallowed her whole.
Never walk again.
Her entire future vanished in one sentence.
Tears rolled silently into her hair.
She expected pity.
Disappointment.
Regret.
Maybe Salvatore realizing she was too damaged to bother saving.
Instead, his voice turned deadly quiet.
“What does she need?”
The doctor blinked.
“Extensive rehabilitation. Specialists. Surgery possibly. It’ll be expensive.”
“I didn’t ask about the cost.”
Salvatore stepped closer to the bed, eyes fixed on Melanie.
“I asked what she needs.”
Something inside her broke completely then.
Because nobody had ever fought for her like that.
Not once.
Hours later, after the doctors finally left, Melanie woke to find the room dark except for a fireplace glowing softly nearby.
Salvatore sat alone in a leather chair beside her bed.
Still watching over her.
His tie was gone now. The top buttons of his shirt were undone. Exhaustion shadowed his face, but he hadn’t left.
When he noticed her awake, he stood immediately.
“You should rest.”
Melanie swallowed painfully before whispering her first clear words in days.
“Why… are you helping me?”
Salvatore went still.
For several long seconds, only the fire crackled between them.
Then he walked slowly toward her bedside.
May you like
“Because somebody hurt you,” he said quietly. “And they should’ve known better than to do it in my city.”
But the way he looked at her told Melanie the truth was far more dangerous than that.
